The Position

Job Description
This critical hire will report to the VP of Development within Arevon's Development team and will be responsible for managing land acquisition and site control efforts for new and early-stage utility solar and battery energy storage projects. Arevon Energy's current portfolio consists of 50+ projects in various stages of development and the company is continuing to grow this pipeline by originating new greenfield project across the country. For this greenfielding effort, Arevon is seeking a strategic land acquisition expert responsible for the full life cycle of land management, from initial landowner outreach and lease negotiations, agreement execution, title curative efforts, and project handover. This individual should be familiar with contracting and managing land agents, as well as working closely with real estate counsel and internal project developers. This role requires a blend of real estate expertise, negotiation prowess, and deep understanding of the solar energy industry.The Director of Land position is an integral role and provides an excellent opportunity for a career at a leading renewable energy development company. The ideal candidate has a genuine interest in renewable energy, education in a related field, and at least five years of renewable energy specific land management experience. Responsibilities


  • Develop and implement a comprehensive land acquisition strategy aligned with the company's project development goals.
  • Utilize real estate databases, GIS mapping tools, and aerial imagery to identify potential land sites with characteristics ideal for solar development (e.g., size, zoning, insolation, grid proximity).
  • Conduct thorough due diligence on shortlisted sites, including researching land ownership records, mineral rights evaluations, and other title exceptions.
  • Analyze land acquisition costs and present compelling financial justifications for project development.
  • Stay up-to-date on regional land use regulations, permitting processes, and potential zoning changes that may impact project feasibility.
  • Initiate contact with landowners, build rapport, and cultivate trust through effective communication.
  • Understand and address landowner concerns regarding solar development projects.
  • Negotiate and finalize land lease agreements that are favorable to the company while ensuring fair compensation for landowners.
  • Secure easements and access rights as needed to facilitate project construction and operation.
  • Oversee land title curative processes to ensure clear title for project development.
  • Manage land acquisition budgets and track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cost per acre, timeline adherence, and landowner conversion rates.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders including development, engineering, legal, and project finance teams to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Maintain clear and concise documentation of all land acquisition activities, agreements, and communications.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in land acquisition, with a proven track record in the renewable energy sector (highly preferred).
    • Demonstrated expertise in negotiating and finalizing complex land acquisition agreements.
    • In-depth understanding of real estate law, land use regulations, and permitting processes related to solar energy development.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ESRI ArcGIS.
    • Willingness to travel regionally for site visits and meetings.

      Education Requirements

      • 4-year degree from an accredited university in real estate, environmental science, engineering, mathematics, business, or similar discipline.
      • Advanced technical or business degrees encouraged.
